How
does DHT affect hair loss? |
 |
|
DHT
(short for DiHydroTestosterone) is considered to be the leading cause of male
and female pattern hairloss.
Although all individuals have DHT in their bodies, (men have more
than women) not all will experience
hair loss. It is believed that men and women with pattern hair loss have more DHT receptors
in their hair follicles than those that don't lose their hair, and
that they have increased levels of DHT in their system.
|
 |
|
There
are Three Ways That DHT Causes Pattern Hair Loss
|
 |
| 1 |
DHT
binds itself to receptors in the hair follicles causing the
hair growth phase (Anagen) to become shorter. Eventual the
hair becomes thinner in diameter and weaker. Finally the
hair becomes too weak to survive and just falls out. |
|
 |
| 2 |
DHT causes the hair roots to constrict in size, cutting
off vital blood supply and nutrients to the hair follicles.
The hair follicles can't grow normally, thus producing
weaker, shorter and thinner hair strands. |
|
 |
| 3 |
DHT causes hairloss by increasing the growth of oil
(sebum) in the scalp. The pores of the scalp become clogged,
killing the hair follicle. |
